Onion Dip – Emily’s Famous Onion Dip 8/10 November 20 2009





* 2 tablespoons butter

* 1 small onion, finely chopped

* 2 cups plain yogurt                 475ml

* 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar     3ml

* salt and pepper to taste




1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Saute onions in butter until tender and lightly browned.

2. Transfer onions to a serving bowl, and stir in yogurt and vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving to blend flavors. This tastes even better if it sits overnight. The onion flavor gets stronger



The texture of the yogurt thickened in the refrigerator but still was not as firm as sour cream. The onion (I doubled the onion) was very pungent and gave the dip a really pungent onion flavor. I used a quarter of a teaspoon of salt  (using only 1/4cup of yogurt proportion). The dips didn’t go well with bread, so maybe with something else.
